CFO or CEO – Who’s Responsible for the Numbers?  

I’d say: Both.

But how?

  • CFO is the guardian of actual numbers.

  • CEO is the driver of targeted numbers.

Which numbers?
Top Line or Bottom Line?

Again, both.

So what about the flow—from top to bottom?

Who cares?
As long as both leaders are aligned,
Own their respective lanes,
And are accountable for both the factuals and forecasts,
That’s what truly matters.

When I interview CFOs or CEOs, I often see the boundaries blur—sometimes even contradict.

That’s when it becomes crucial to ask:
Are you clear why you’re hiring them?

Because if you’re not clear,
They won’t be either.

So as a founder, board, or promoter—be crystal clear about:

  • Who drives?

  • Who reports?

  • Who owns the future?

  • Who anchors the present?

And make sure they complement, not compete.
